Protect and restore damaged teeth with dental crowns

Dental crowns

A crown covers and strengthens a tooth that's too damaged for a filling, restoring it to full function and natural appearance.

Dental crowns at Brookvale & Merrifield

A crown is one of the most dependable ways to save a tooth that can no longer be helped by a filling alone. We make each crown from tooth-coloured porcelain or ceramic, carefully shade-matched to the teeth around it so the result looks and feels completely natural.

Using our digital intraoral scanner rather than traditional impressions, we take a precise 3D image of your tooth so your crown fits accurately and comfortably.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the entire visible part a damaged, weakened, or heavily restored tooth to protect it and restore its original shape, size, and function. Think of it as a protective casing — one that holds the tooth together, prevents further damage, and allows you to bite and chew normally again.

Crowns are made to match the colour and shape of your surrounding teeth, so once it's in place, most people won't be able to tell it's there. They're fixed permanently in position, unlike a denture, and with the right care they can last well over a decade.

How we fit your dental crown

Your consultation

We'll examine the tooth and take digital scans to see whether a crown is the right solution. We'll talk you through the full procedure, answer any questions, and give you a clear, written price before we begin.

Preparing and designing your crown

We gently reshape the tooth to make space for the crown, then send the digital design to our trusted laboratory where your crown is custom-made. A temporary crown protects the tooth while you wait, usually for around two weeks.

Fitting your crown

Once your permanent crown is ready, you'll come back to have it fitted and checked. We'll make any adjustments needed to ensure the fit and bite feel comfortable, and show you how to look after it at home.

How much does a dental crown cost?

The cost of a crown can vary depending on which tooth is being treated and how much restoration work is needed beforehand. For example, a back molar that has broken down may require more preparation than a front tooth with minor damage. You’ll always receive a full personalised breakdown of your treatment before we begin.

With the right care, a well-fitted crown can last well over ten years, making it a fantastic investment in your oral health, and a better solution than losing the tooth altogether.

Do I need a dental crown?

We’ll usually recommend a dental crown when a tooth has become so damaged or weakened that a standard filling won’t provide enough support. Common reasons include:

  • A cracked or broken tooth that's at risk of further damage
  • A tooth with extensive decay that's removed too much structure
  • A tooth that's had root canal treatment and needs extra protection
  • A heavily filled tooth that's likely to fracture without a crown
