Gentle, caring children's dentistry in Honiton and Sidmouth
Children's dentist
We make every visit a positive one, helping younger patients feel comfortable and confident about their dental health.

Children's dentistry at Brookvale & Merrifield
For over 19 years, we've been looking after families across East Devon. Rajesh Kumar leads our paediatric care, bringing over 15 years of experience and a Master's degree in paediatric and preventive dentistry.
Rajesh’s approach is gentle, patient, and designed around making each visit feel relaxed and positive. Our goal is simple: to help your child see coming to the dentist as something completely normal – and maybe even fun!

What does children's dentistry involve?
Children's appointments follow much the same routine as those for adults, but at a pace that suits younger patients. At each visit, we'll check your child's teeth and gums, monitor how their teeth are developing, and offer guidance on brushing and diet.
Common dental treatments for children include fluoride applications to strengthen enamel, gentle cleaning, and fillings for adult teeth if needed. Everything is explained in simple terms so your child understands what's happening.

What to expect at your child's first appointment
Get in touch
Call us on 01404 44800 (Brookvale) or 01395 579932 (Merrifield), or book online. We'll arrange a time that fits around your family's routine.
The appointment
Your child will meet one of our dentists for a gentle, unhurried examination. We'll explain everything we're doing so they feel involved and reassured.
Going forward
After the appointment, we'll recommend how often your child should return and highlight anything to keep an eye on at home. You'll always know the next steps.
How much does it cost to take my child to the dentist?
We offer a Children's Membership at £6.25 per month, which includes two examinations per year and fissure sealants when necessary to protect your child's teeth. For families looking for predictable costs for preventative care, this is an excellent option.
If your child needs additional treatment, we'll always discuss the costs with you first. You can find full pricing details on our pricing page.
We provide some care for children on the NHS, so if you’re looking for NHS appointments, please get in touch for more information.

Does my child need to go to the dentist?
We recommend bringing your child when their first tooth appears, or around their first birthday. Most children benefit from a check-up every six months, which helps us spot any issues early and keeps their oral health on track. If your child experiences pain, has an accident involving their teeth, or you notice something that doesn't look right, contact us straight away. We're here to help whenever you need us.

Why early dental care matters
Builds good habits
Starting young helps children develop brushing and oral hygiene routines that last a lifetime.
Reduces anxiety
Children who visit the dentist regularly are far less likely to find it daunting as they grow older.
Catches problems early
Issues are much easier to manage when identified at the right time, often before they cause discomfort.
Protects adult teeth
Regular check-ups make sure adult teeth come through as healthy as possible and stay that way.
