Custom gumshields for active patients across East Devon

Whether you play rugby, box, practice martial arts, or enjoy hockey, a custom-fitted sports guard offers significantly better protection than anything bought off the shelf.

We create gumshields that fit your teeth precisely, providing superior cushioning during impact while staying comfortable throughout your game. The process takes just two short appointments at either our Honiton or Sidmouth practice, and you'll leave the second visit with your guard ready to use.

What is a mouth guard for teeth grinding?

A dental mouth guard (also called a night guard or occlusal splint) is designed to shield your teeth from the damaging effects of bruxism. While it won't stop you from grinding, it absorbs the force and prevents wear, chips, and sensitivity. Custom guards made from impressions of your teeth offer far better comfort and protection than over-the-counter alternatives, which often fit poorly and can be uncomfortable to wear consistently.

How we create your custom sports guard

Your appointment

We'll assess your teeth and bite, then take precise impressions of your teeth that allow us to create a guard shaped exactly to your mouth.

Collecting your gumshield

When your sports guard is ready, we'll check the fit carefully, make any minor adjustments needed, and make sure it's comfortable.

Ongoing care

We'll show you how to wear your gumshield correctly, clean it after each use, and store it properly to keep it hygienic and long-lasting.

How much does a gumshield cost?

Custom sports guards represent excellent value when you consider the cost and discomfort of repairing a damaged tooth. We maintain up-to-date pricing for all our treatments on our pricing page, and we’ll also give you a transparent quote for your sports guard before moving ahead with your appointment.

Should you be wearing a sports mouth guard?

If you play rugby, box, practice martial arts, play hockey, basketball, or cricket, a gumshield is essential. Many sports organisations now require mouth guards, particularly at junior level, because of the overwhelming evidence for using one.

Even a single incident can result in tooth loss or fracture, and the cost of replacing or repairing a damaged tooth far exceeds the investment in a quality custom guard. If there's any contact or risk of impact to your face during your sport, a gumshield belongs in your kit bag.

Why choose a custom-fitted sports guard

Protect your teeth from impact damage

Absorbs and distributes the force of blows to the face and jaw, preventing chips, cracks, and tooth loss.

Minimise jaw injury with custom-made protection

Cushions the jaw as well as the teeth, reducing the risk of serious jaw injuries.

Reduce soft tissue damage from high impact

Protects your lips, tongue, and cheeks from cuts caused by teeth during contact.

Prevent sports-related dental treatments

Considerably cheaper than repairing or replacing a damaged tooth.

Well-crafted sports gumshields from your local dentists

Our team has years of experience creating custom sports guards for patients of all ages across Honiton and Sidmouth.

Whether you're fitting out a young player for their first season or you're an adult returning to competitive sport, we'll ensure your gumshield fits perfectly and provides the highest level of protection. We take the time to get the fit right, because a guard that isn't comfortable won't be worn consistently, and that defeats the purpose entirely.
